The Foundation

Animāto is a combination of the word anime and āto, which means art in Japanese.

This brand was born out of a simple frustration. We noticed that most merchandise in the space felt exactly like merchandise. It was dominated by loud screen prints placed on thin, cheap garments. We wanted something different. We wanted pieces that respected the culture while maintaining the aesthetic of high end streetwear.

We decided to treat our clothing designs as actual art. That meant moving away from mass production and focusing entirely on premium heavyweight cotton, complex appliqué embroidery, and custom cut and sew techniques.
